You should ‘Mind’ your Mind
Did you know we have 50,000 – 70,000 thoughts a day which is roughly 35 – 48 thoughts per minute?
With that in mind (excuse the pun) can you imagine the effect on your well-being when you think how many thoughts are negative, stressful, fearful, worrisome or self-bashing?
‘Mind’ your Mind – Ask yourself the following questions
What would happen if you spent one whole day focusing on your thought process?
What do you think the result would be if you split your thoughts into two categories, negative and positive?
What kind of insights would you get into how you think?
I think it would be a huge shock to most people, wouldn’t it?
Life gets really busy and we tend not to think of these things and brush them aside to deal with matters at hand but it is the most important thing you could possibly think of and take action with! If you want to live to the best of your ability, create and retain great relationships and make things that are in your control go smoothly you need to ‘mind’ your mind.
So why do we neglect our minds and our thought process?
It doesn’t make sense, does it? A lot of people put so much emphasis on the bad things in life and dwell way too long on them to the point where it has become routine to stress, gossip, bitch, create drama, involve ourselves in drama, put ourselves down, put others down because of how we feel inside. This means we just really torment ourselves and others around us!
What should we do?
Anyone can change this at any point. It only takes focus to realise our thinking pattern and to change our train of thought. However, it’s important to remember that we are conditioned over the years by the people we surround ourselves with, circumstance and anything that we have done repeatedly. Therefore, it does take time to change how our brains are wired and a certain pattern of thinking so how do we change that?
START. That’s it plain and simple, just start! Once you start to be aware of how you think about yourself and everything else in life you will start to notice that there are always improvements to be made. No one is perfect, and no one has it all figured out but we are here to grow. So, once you are aware of this you will find yourself catching negative thoughts as they enter your mind. This is when you can decide to change that thought or let it fester. How?
Replace it with a positive thought. Think of someone you love, something you love or something you are really looking forward to.
This will not only make you feel better but will have a huge impact on your mind. Your mind will be less stressed, therefore causing less stress throughout your body. It will cause you to be happier in general and help you attract like-minded people instead of people who want to remain negative eddies.
Let’s look at some facts before we move onto some examples of how we are not kind to our mind.
99% of the things we worry about never happen – so why worry so much?
Can you remember what you were worrying about this time last year? Everyone I asked said no, so why worry about something that might never happen and something that you will not even remember in a months time, let alone a year?
Fear – False Evidence Appearing Real. The reason we were made to feel fear is only when you are in actual danger e.g. When caveman/cavewomen are about to be eaten by a Lion. Your fear was meant to act as a signal from your body to kick in only in extremely dangerous situations to give you a warning for danger, not what we have been reduced to over time.
Stress is the number one cause for disease, a disease in your body is dis-ease in your body, sickness and health issues. Think of how many medical conditions are caused by stress! So many are brought on by overthinking bad about everything. It’s not fair on you and its not fair on the people you love who worry about you if you are unwell. Don’t do it to yourself. Some things genuinely are very hard to deal with but don’t stress the small stuff.
You are running yourself down too when you over-stress. When your stressed, everything feels like it shuts down. Your happiness, your spark, your body, your previously good sleeping pattern and so on. By thinking more positively and being aware of how much you needlessly stress you will live a much healthier and happier lifestyle. You will have more energy, positive energy and people around you will aspire to feel the same. So you are helping yourself, but also helping others too. A win, win.
Putting yourself down does not serve you. In fact, it increases your insecurities and self-hatred which is the worst thing you could do to yourself! Why put yourself down when you can build yourself up? Remember, there is only one of you in the world, only one! You are here for a very important reason and are needed even you’re not sure what that reason is yet, keep going and give yourself a break, you’re only human.
Putting others down is nothing to do with others. It’s not their fault, they are not to blame, they are human too and by putting them down it is quite obvious that you are either taking your struggles out on them or envious in a way you are probably not even aware of. So stop it, everyone has the same feelings and you should never make anyone else feel bad because it is a reflection of how you feel.
Remember worry and stress stem from fear, which creates negative thoughts which then leads to enhanced fear, panic and anxiety but you can change this easily and create habits overtime that will serve you well for the rest of your life.
To “Mind” your mind all you need to do is… Start
Start appreciating what you do have: Family, Friends, a home, food on the table, etc. This alone makes you richer than most of the world’s population. When you wake up, take 5 minutes to take in what you actually DO have. A cosy bed, heat, comfortable clothes, a roof over your head, people who love you and would literally do anything for you, maybe a pet who adores you, a partner you love, kids that look up to you and hang on your every word as gospel … the list goes on and on and on. Do this before you go to sleep and be thankful for the good things that happened during the day and you will see a big change! Why put so much thought into what you do not have? Set a goal for what you want, aim for it, work for it and do not let it make you unhappy during the waiting process.
Start to try to reduce your stress levels so life runs smoother: Get organised and get on top of things. Take the time to do this, no matter how much you think you don’t have the time to get organised. Did you ever realise that you have the same amount of time as Einstein and all the greats? So you can spare some time to sit down and organise your week and this will result in you having more free time because you are on top of things. Keep this up and you will have even MORE TIME. To make this a habit do it for 30 days straight and it will be part of your routine. For all other stresses, all you can do is be aware of when you are giving yourself a hard time and take it down a notch or ten. Over time you will become aware of how worked up you are getting. Do not stress over things you cannot change, it is wasted energy and you stressing about it will not change the outcome.
If you are always complaining about being broke do up a budget: This will free up money you didn’t even know you had. In our generation, we spend well beyond our means. We spend money we do not have therefore, we end up trying to play catch up all the time and end up in debt. Break this cycle, you will be delighted you did it. If you can think of an extra way to earn more money than DO IT! Life is too short for, “I will sometime”. The timing will never be right or perfect so just START!
If you don’t like it, change it. I cannot stress this enough, if you do not like something, change it. If you hate your job start pursuing a career that will make you happy as you spend half your life in work so if you hate it, you are not going to enjoy a half or your life, which is crazy! If you hate a relationship you’re in, get out of it! If you hate the way certain people treat you, don’t spend time with them. Cut them out or take a step back. If you hate your body then start to work on it.
All of these things, as patronising as they may sound are totally attainable and might feel hard to do at first but you will reap the benefits right away and immediately be happier. Nothing in life worth having ever came easy. So don’t stay stuck just because it’s easy. You’ll regret it for the rest of life.
In addition and when you are ready, start practicing “The Law of Attraction“. In short, The LOA is the idea that like attracts like, what we think about we bring about.
