How to Stay Positive

How to Stay Positive when everything seems like its falling apart.

Staying positive can be really hard at times but it’s not impossible. I hear a lot of people say “I’m trying to stay positive but I can’t”. Or “I’m trying to be more positive. I keep reading up about how to be positive but it’s not working”. I get it, I’ve been there, but I know what you need to do to fix this situation. The great thing is that you want to be more positive and improve your life. That’s the first and bravest step. Here’s how to do the rest…

I know it’s easy for people to say “just be positive” or “you need to stop being so negative”. But until you start working at it you can’t help thinking negatively about most things. Especially, when its all you’ve ever known. At any given stage, we only know what we’ve always known! But that can change instantly once you start to work on it.

So what’s missing?

You need to turn your intentions into action.

You want to be more positive and you have great intentions. fair play! But you don’t know how. You’ve read up on it and know what being positive is all about but you can’t seem to get there. Here are a few reasons why:

Its new to you

You’re trying to run before you can walk

You’re not used to thinking this way

Your mind has been conditioned over time to think negatively

You don’t know how to actually think positively or how to start

Here’s how to start thinking more positively:

At first, you need to put a plan in place to think more positively. Without planning you won’t reach your goals. Start by reminding yourselves of 3 things you are grateful for each morning. Do this when you wake up and every night before you go to sleep. This will automatically put your thoughts in a good place before you sleep. And give you a positive attitude at the start of each day.

Examples: I’m grateful for everything I have in my life. I’m grateful for my loving family. I’m grateful for my amazing friends. I’m grateful for the roof over my head. I’m grateful for my pets. I’m grateful for my health. I’m grateful to wake up today as so many others won’t… and so on. Set reminders on your phone for when you are going to bed and when you wake up.

Secondly, add more positive thoughts each day and remind yourself to purposely think them. Set more reminders on your phone so you get notified at random times of the day. Try catch yourself when your thinking negatively. For example, say you start thinking ‘I hate my job, everyone is always on my back. I can’t stand it. I wish I had a better job doing something I love’.

Replace these thoughts with something like ‘I’m grateful for the money I make from my job. It allows me to buy the things I like and do the things I love. I love my work friends but I look forward to finding my dream job soon. By doing this you are affirming all the good in your job. And you’re starting to think more positively about your job. This will make you happier to go into work each day, less stressed and less annoyed at work.

Thirdly you need to continue this process until thinking more positively is ingrained in your thinking patterns. We have 60-80 thousand thoughts a day so can you imagine what your doing to yourself when most are negative. It has a great impact on you and everyone around you. Once you start this process everything in your life will start to change for the better. I guarantee it! It takes 30 days to form a habit. If you can keep this up for 30 days straight, your thoughts will start to change for the better. You will continue to become more positive as time passes.

Recap and helpful resources

You need to plan how you’re going to try to think positive thoughts. Note down what you’re grateful for. Repeat it to yourself until you can easily remember what to tell yourself each day. Remind yourself as its easy to forget. Keep it up for at least 30 days to start to re-program your brain. You will start to notice positive changes right away. You’ll be less stressed, less irritated, more optimistic and feel more like yourself; the person you are meant to be.

Always remember

Its only a thought, and a thought can be changed.

It is impossible to think good and bad at the same time, so choose positive thoughts.
