How To Find Your Purpose In Life

Lost? Confused? Don’t know why you’re here?

I get it, but don’t worry, this post will show you how to find your purpose in life by asking yourself 3 simple questions! Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Let’s do it…

It sounds a bit too good to be true that you could figure out your life’s purpose in 3 questions, doesn’t it? Well, you can. How do I know? I know, because I’ve been there, done that and wore the ‘I finally know my purpose’ t-shirt.

I spent most of my 20’s totally confused because I didn’t know what the hell I wanted to do with my life. In a nutshell, I didn’t know what I was supposed to be doing and what I was doing it for. This was frustrating to say the least!

The 3 question exercise below will not only answer those burning questions for you but will help you find your life’s purpose immediately.

Here’s my story…

Trust me I guarantee I’ve been as confused as you are right now. Why? Because I spent the majority of my 20’s totally confused and severely stressed out about what the hell I was doing with my life! Where was I going? In other words, what was my purpose?

This haunted me more than anything else and nothing gave me the answer I needed. All I wanted was a solution to a really long problem that I felt was never going to end!

I compared myself to everyone else, silly I know. I’d ask myself why does everyone else seem to have it all figured out? Why can’t I decide what I want to do or where I want to be? Then when I thought I had figured out I’d second guess myself. What if I make the wrong decision? This went on and on for 8 years!!

A million scenarios went through my head all day every day. I’ve never suffered from mental health issues that I’ve not been able to overcome such as anxiety etc. But I will say that this tortured my mind day and night! This is why I felt it’s not only helpful but essential to share this solution to finding your purpose.

If this post can help save needless days, months and even years worrying about your life’s purpose then my job is done. Also, if you know someone struggling with these issues, send it onto them.

Now for the exercise:

Prepare yourself by going somewhere quiet, somewhere you can think. Close your eyes and sit with no distractions or lie down if you feel more comfortable. And be prepared to allow yourself to be brutally honest. Now ask yourself the 3 questions below and answer them honestly, from the heart.

3 questions to find your life’s purpose:

1. What are you truly passionate about?

2. Why do you do what you do?

3. Who do you do it for?

By asking yourself the above questions, you are forcing yourself to give yourself the exact answers you need.

What are you truly passionate about? This will give you direction as to what you need to focus on, because we all need to be doing what we love, be it professionally or on the side to feel fulfilled in life. I’m passionate about a lot of things, but at the core, my true passion is helping people.

Why do you do what you do? This delves into your purpose even deeper. For example, I do what I do because I want to help people in any way I can. I enjoy writing, creating content, graphics, video and sharing it with the world. In addition, I enjoy using digital marketing to make sure my site continues to inspire millions.

If you love to look after animals then do it! Or if you love to care for the elderly, do it! Perhaps you love to be free and want to travel the world? Go for it! You will find a way once you are clear about what you want to do.

Who do you do it for? I do it for everyone who needs a pick me up, who may be going through a tough time or who’s had a rough life and wants to turn it around. I do it for my family and for my brother who passed away at 34. Because his death made me realise that I need to be grateful for every day I wake up breathing and make the most of this precious thing called life.

And I do it for my brothers four amazing kids because I want to inspire them to follow their dreams knowing that someone will always be there to support them and have their back.

BONUS QUESTION – Who are your supporters? This question makes you realise a few home truths. You’ll realise not everyone is going to clap for you and that some people may never support you. But you need to follow your purpose regardless. I’m sure there is at least one person out there that supports every decision you make and is your no.1 supporter. That’s all you need!

Sometimes not everyone can see your vision and it takes time for them to see it. I had this problem too with some family and friends but it is no longer an issue. My Dad always says if your shy you’ll go hungry, if you don’t ask you don’t get.

So when asking yourself these questions, be brutally honest with your answers. You’ll discover some really important things about yourself, who you are, what you are about and why you do it. Perhaps you’ll realise how much support you have around you 24/7.

This will give you a glimpse into who you are but don’t stop there! There is so much to learn but this is a good starting point. Remember, you don’t have to figure it all out at once and you don’t have to set a career up for life.

Simply start and do what you want for a few years then move onto the next thing that sets your soul on fire. Don’t take things too seriously by putting pressure on yourself. You’ll figure out the rest in due course. If you need to know more and can’t wait, feel free to email me at addictedtoeverything1@gmail.com or use the contact page.
