1. What made you begin Beauty Bakerie?
I’m absolutely in love with the world of arts. Every aspect of art intrigues me. I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit since childhood. I once dreamed of being an architect and would draw floor plans and landscaping ideas for homes for leisure. I’d worked in the area of literature and book writing, songwriting and music, painting, nature leaves me in awe…it was only a matter of time before I became the makeup artist in my group of friends. We had one friend really good at doing hair, one really good at styling us and me, I was good at makeup application. Not too long later, Beauty Bakerie was born.
2. What has been your greatest success with Beauty Bakerie?
Hands down, being featured on will always be one of the most notable successes my company has seen. To be recognized by her as a fighter, survivor; someone who can persevere was near and dear to me.
3. What has been your greatest failure and how did you learn from it?
I have never failed. I have only learned. A lesson I learned was that it is okay to hire contractors and consultants to assist in getting the brand to where it needs to be. As one person, I can only do so much and its okay to ask others for help.
4. What would be a crucial piece of advice you would give to someone about starting your own business and success?
Ironically, people tend to get very upset with me when I tell them this. I always say, if you want something, do it. That is it. That is all. We can sit here and go back and forth about all of the ideas you have. We can “ooooh” and “ahhhhh” over every fine detail but I am an results driven person and believe wholeheartedly that you should “DO” much more than you “SAY”. If you want something bad enough, you’ll make it happen. This is also the reason people are slow to support. I had to learn what that meant…it only means that they aren’t sure if you are just talking or if you really intend to bring your dream into fruition. They don’t mean any harm, they just want you to be serious.
5. What inspires and motivates you?
My daughter inspires and motivates me. She’s so level-headed. I live vicariously through her because I was such a young mother. I’ve been a mother the majority of my life. Nothing is more rewarding than being able to help guide her life along and watch her make good choices for her future. When I see her work hard, its comforting because it means that the young teen mom that didn’t know where to go in life- actually got it right. But all in all, I am inspired by anyone who can wake up today, decide that they’ve had enough and make a new life for themselves by 5pm. Its truly amazing to see!
